OLDER NEWS

27/7/05 Altered Quest Server & Client Update

New versions of the Altered Quest server and client apps are now available to download.

AQ Server alpha v0.3 (1.1mb)

AQ Client alpha v0.6 (3.6mb)

22/7/05 Altered Quest first alpha release

The first alpha release of Altered Quest is now available to download. It comes in two flavours; Server and Client. Only people with a good internet connection (good upload and download speeds) should download the server program. Please read the readme files for information on running the server and connecting to one from the client. This is an early alpha release to test mainly the online networking code and as such does not contain any game play. You will however be able to explore some terrain and chat with fellow players.

AQ Client alpha v0.4 (3.3mb)

29/6/05 Team XTC site back online

The Team XTC site has been down for a while now, but I've finally gotten around to finding it a new home. For now at least :) I will be posting some new information about 2 new games I started over the past few months and hopefully I'll find some time to update some of my older games.

25/4/04 New Games!
Two new games are now available to download. Pong is the classic bat and ball game and 3D Bubble Bobble is a 3D take on the bubble bursting classic. Small downloads packed with fun, go to their respective pages to download and try them out.

2/2/03 3D Object Viewer
3D Object viewer is a program which allows you to view and animate 3d models. It is designed with DarkBASIC games developers in mind but can be used by anyone. It currently supports loading DirectX models and the various texture formats and also saving as DirectX meshes. Once loaded objects can be easily scaled, textured and animated. For more info and a screenshot go here.

16/12/02 Latest on Dark Konflict
Development on Dark Konflict is now moving along nicely again. After long delays porting the code from DB to DBPro I can now happily say the game is completely ported over with only one or two minor things left to be fixed. Some major changes in the next release will see the absence of the day and night cycle which had to go along with building lights etc. A detailed explanation for this can be found on the forum. But rest assured I'll do my best to cram in other features to make up for this.  Expect the next release of DK early in the new year. So until then I wish everybody a merry Christmas and a Happy new year. :)

8/11/02 Development delays
There has been a major lull on the development front here over the last while. This is mainly due to the change over in programing languages from DarkBASIC to DarkBASIC Pro. DBPro is going through some early teething problems and certain bugs in the language have prevented me from developing my projects further. However it shouldn't be too long until the third DBPro patch will be released and hopefully most of the issues will be addressed. In the long run this will mean Dark Konflict and future games will benefit greatly from the extra speed and features that DBPro will offer. So stay tuned and don't go far.

4/9/02 New site design
Site has been redesigned slightly and is now even easier to navigate.

13/8/02 Hotcars track editor improved
  For anyone interested in making tracks for Hotcars I've uploaded an improved version of the editor. No new features or changes just a big performance increase.

Download Hotcars Track Editor (680kb)

6/8/02 Dark Konflict beta1.6 and mission editor
  Things have moved slowly for me on the development front in the last month. The bulk of the time was spent working on the editor which is now in a useable state for public use. There is no documentation on how to use the editor at this time so if anyone has any questions please ask in the forum and I'll do my best to help you out. The triggers are the most exciting addition this time round making for more variety and interest to the missions. Any requests for additional triggers are also very welcome. There are quite a few trigger settings and not all have been fully tested yet so any bug reports or ideas for the game or editor as ussual will be greatly appreciated. Also note the actual mission files are very small (on average about 2kb) making it easy for players to share their missions online if they do so wish.

Below are the main additions/changes.

 * new building type added (sam site)
 * flares added
 * custom music option added (.mp3 and .mid files supported)
 * some new unit textures
 * advanced trigger support added for missions
 * troops turnrate increased
 * fixed a minor bug that affected ordering troops into vehicles
 * improved targeting

Flares: Pressing space will fire off a flare which will light up the area for a period of time. You can fire off a maximum of 2 flares at any given time however they do take time to recharge after being fired. New indicators on the interface light up when the flares are ready for use.

Note: The mission file format has changed since the last beta so the missions created with the editor are only compatible with b1.6 likewise the old mission files are incompatible with the editor and the current version of the game.

beta1.6 full install (6mb)
mission editor (632kb)

11/7/02 Dark Konflict mission editor
  Want to make your own missions for Dark Konflict? Well soon this will be possible with the new mission editor. Place units, buildings, set mission properties, edit briefings, place triggers, edit the terrain and more. Check out this screenshot which shows the editor and all of the units currently available in DK bar the jet.

Other changes to game include new unit textures which make distinguishing between sides easier, sam sites to help defend against helicopter attacks, flares to light up the battle field at night and a new option which allows players to listen to their own custom mp3's or midi music files while playing the game.

28/5/02 Dark Konflict beta 1.5
  This update adds unit creation time and fixes a number of bugs (mostly multiplayer) that snook into the last version. If you have beta1.4 installed allready you can download the smaller patch.

beta1.5 full install (6mb)
beta1.4 to 1.5 patch (620kb)

15/5/02 Dark Konflict beta 1.4 out now!
  Ok, here it is, probably the biggest update so far, beta 1.4 adds lots of new goodies and fixes a lot of bugs. Below is a list of the main changes and additions.

 * 4 new units added (scud, aa-tank, gunship, jet)
 * 5 new building types added (comms centre, lights, helipad, guard tower, bunker)
 * new campaign menu (8 missions added to gda campaign)
 * skirmish mode added
 * ai improved
 * bonus crates added to skirmish and multiplayer modes
 * new indicators added to interface (time, low power and unit limit)
 * some changes to the menus (some of the menus were very "laggy" now fixed)
 * buildings hit points changed (all buildings had the same hit points and were too strong)
 * major bug that slowed down game speed fixed (higher resolutions now run much faster too)
 * major bug fixed (would degrade performance on each exit to main menu from in-game menu)
 * better syncing of parameters in multiplayer
 * lot's and lot's of other minor fixes and tweaks

Download Dark Konflict b1.4 (6mb)

Please note if you have a previous version of Dark Konflict installed make sure you uninstall it before installing b1.4.

Known issues: Some systems will not be able to display a lot of lights in the game. This will be fixed in a later update. Also the ai in skirmish mode isn't the smartest at the moment and will probably prove easy to kill. I will continue to improve it for up coming versions. If you find any bugs or problems please post them in the forum and I will do my best to address them.

10/5/02 New screenshot
  Here's a new screenshot showing the new base defences and attack helicopter.

Due to the amount of changes and improvements that's going into b1.4 progress has taken longer than expected. Most of the work is done and it's mostly play testing that's going on at the moment. However there are one or two other things I want to get into into this release too before it's released so please bear with me a little longer.

30/4/02 Screenshot of new air units in DK
  Check out this screenshot to see two of the new units featuring in the next release. The screenshot shows the attack helicopter and jet in action. A new time indicator has been added to the interface also, so players now know when darkness or daylight is approaching.

22/4/02 The konflict takes to the air
  Ok time for some news on what expect in the next version of Dark Konflict.

There will be at least 3 new unit types. First up is the scud launcher which is slow and weak but packs a huge punch and will be most effective in destroying buildings. Next is the jet which can be assinged a target to carry out an air strike but is not directly controlable like the other units. And thirdly is the attack helicopter which can be controlled in much the same way as any other unit.

There will also be more building options available including machine gun guard towers for base defence and lights which can be placed around your base for ilumination.

Beta 1.4 should be ready some time early in may.

9/4/02 Forum change and DK news
  Decided to change the forum to a better one. I hope people prefer this one over the old one as it's neater and will be more flexible for the future.

Meanwhile more improvements and additions are being made to Dark Konflict. Expect to see two new unit types in the next release.

28/3/02 Dark Konflict beta 1.3
  Lot's of multiplayer bug fixes and additions in this release. The host can now configure game options such as amount of starting credits, maximum amount of units per side and wether or not night time effects the game. Clients can also now rebuild, repair and demolish buildings aswell as see and hear most bullet and explosion effects. Clients can also now transport troops in vehicles. The manual has also been updated with instructions on how to set up a multiplayer game. If you have b1.2 installed allready you can download this 612kb patch, otherwise here's the full install which is a 4.6mb download. Now that multiplayer support is pretty much nailed down hopefully more time can be spent adding more missions and units etc. to the game and expanding on the single player experience.

21/3/02 Dark Konflict beta 1.2
  Beta 1.2 can now be downloaded. The main change from the last release is the introduction of multiplayer support. The full install is now only a 4.6mb download due mainly to some changes in the music and if you have the first release allready you can download this 1.8mb patch instead. At this point I've only tested on a lan but I'm also trying to get internet support going and the best way to do that is to release what I've got at the moment and see how it plays in practise on the net. Currently only the host will see and hear bullet/explosion effects but this will be fixed after I get the core of the multiplayer code working right. To chat during a multiplayer game press [T]. There will more than likely be another patch soon after this to address any imediate bugs that show up in testing.

14/3/02 St.Patricks Day is almost here
  And to help celebrate it, here's a fun little program that you can send to your friends or just enjoy yourself. Here's a screenshot and it can be downloaded here (2.6mb zipped). Wishing everyone a happy paddies day in advance.

13/3/02 Dark Konflict news
  Well since the first release things have been moving kinda slow. However work is still on going and a lot of the multiplayer code has been done so there should be some kind of multiplayer support in the next release. I'm also trying to reduce the file size so it is more accessible to people with slower connections, the main culprit here is the music which will have to be changed.

23/2/02 Dark Konflict beta1
  Although there is a lot more to add to Dark Konflict, I thought it was about time to release the first public beta. So two months down the line and here it is. Download (11.5mb) Make sure to read the html manual included for the controls and gameplay tips. I recommend everyone to leave the resolution on 640x480 and the unit limit at 20 or less for optimum performance.

9/2/02 Progress update
  All out war now has a new name, Dark Konflict. So when will you be able to play this game? Well there's not too long to go now before beta1 gets it's public release. The great bulk of the game engine is done and I've been spending more time play testing it lately. In fact I've had battles with the AI which lasted over an hour. So it looks like beta1 will be available to download before the end of this month. Here's a new screenshot.

30/1/02 Forum now open
  The forum is open so feel free to post any questions or comments. And while I'm at it I may aswell throw out some news. All Out War (working title) is coming along nicely. At the moment there are machine gunners, medics, rpgmen, hummvees, tanks and apc's all working in the game and there are more to add, including mobile scud launchers, helicopters and jets. There's still a lot to be done but expect a more detailed news update in February.

18/1/02 Project AOW is go!
  Work has started on our latest project. All Out War is a real time strategy game which will feature 2 warring sides fighting it out in the desert for the control of oil. Players will have many different units at their disposal, from tanks to jets and everything in between. The game will be 2 player (networked) and will also feature a single player campaign and skirmishes. Time passes in real time while playing also, so you can battle during the day and as night time falls you can launch sneak attacks etc. Game development started early this month so there's still a long way to go before the first beta. Until then make sure you check back for more updates and new screenshots. You'll find the first screenshot in the All Out War section.

4/1/02 Welcome to the Team XTC site
  Any news on any of our projects will be posted here. At the moment Hotcars is still being updated, new cars are being added to bring  more variety to the gameplay as well as the usual bug fixing. I've been busy over the Christmas period so things have been moving slow on the game making front. 3D Draughts is available for download for anyone looking for a simple 2 player board game and work will start soon on our latest project which I won't say too much about yet.
